So I was just thinking about what the might be the most overpowered race when Starcraft 2 is first released. I’d say it will probably be either Protoss or Terran. In the videos I’ve seen, Zerg seems to always get owned and the developers have said that they are working on bringing them up in line with Protoss and Terran but I doubt they will be there at launch. With that said I think Terran will be the most popular race as they are humans and people like to play as humans since they can identify with them, but I’m not sure which race will be the most overpowered.
Balance is so important in real time strategy games. One of the things that made Warcraft 3 not nearly as popular as Starcraft was the fact that they had 4 races, which makes it almost impossible to have balance, and for the first couple years that Warcraft 3 was out there would always be one race that was left significantly weaker than the other three races after each patch to the game. Three races can be balanced, as the original Starcraft is now about balanced after 10+ years and they only have three races. Four races just makes it too hard, someone always gets left out.
I can’t wait until Starcraft 3, I hope it comes out at the end of the year!
