I would have to agree with Jon on the Ultra part, although a good way i have found to conter Thors has been mass producing hydras along side mutas, i get to mutas as fast i can to start hitting resources and hit runs on some buildings, this will sometimes make terran players start building alot of missle turrets, in the mean time i will be producing hydras along side mutas.

I usually make 2 hydras for 1 muta at his point, and will hopefully have 2-3 bases, by the time the terran is ready to attack i can have 20-40 hydras and 10-14 spine crawlers waiting for them. Also i will have anywhere from 20-30 mutas now taking out his entire base, brining me the win, i am playing in gold league so this may not work with more skilled players, but this has been winning me at least 80% of my games vs terran

While this is a well-played game on the Zerg side, it doesn't really show how to repel a heavy Terran mech assault, at least during the mid-game. Here, the Terran guy doesn't get an expansion and doesn't concentrate Thors and seige tanks. It's the Thor/seige concentration that's so devastating to Zerg in the mid-game, and quite frankly there's no good answer to that combo on the Zerg side.

Ultralisks and brood lords are supposed to be the Zerg mech counter, but they take too long to tech to by the time a good Terran player can rally a critical amount of Thors/tanks. The Protoss can just whip up a few immortals from a robobay without additional upgrades and easily smash Terran mech, while the Zerg must try and build overwhelming numbers of short-range roaches to counter.

Basically, ultras should be as easy for the Zerg to get as Immortals and tanks, and then you'd hear a lot less complaining from Zerg players.
